Originally ran as a sportman’s lodge in the 1960’s, The Pearl Hotel is a retro-chic hotel located in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. The hotel has vintage-inspired decor and a variety of amenities including an outdoor pool and hot tub, movie nights in the courtyard, and a restaurant and bar on site, the CHARLES + DINORAH. It’s not a luxury hotel by any means, but it is certainly unique and one of the most affordable hotels on this list.

This sleek and stylish hotel’s decor makes this hotel unique and luxurious at the same time. This is a fantastic location if you want to be in the heart of downtown San Diego or nearby Little Italy.

This is one of the most modern and luxurious hotels on our list, and the price reflects that. However, if budget is not an issue, this hotel is highly recommended.

La Valencia is a historic and elegant hotel located in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego. The hotel’s decor is classic and refined, with a beautiful pool area and a variety of amenities including a spa, a fitness center, and several dining options. The hotel feels a bit dated in our opinion, but it is no doubt this hotel has tons of history as it has been around or more than 90 years. The unique pink exterior makes this a famous La Jolla landmark. Location wise, it’s one of the most beautiful in all of San Diego, overlooking the ocean and just a short walk to the ocean water. Additionally, La Jolla cove is home to many great restaurants and high end shopping, so you’ll be within walking distance of everything you need. FYI, most of the clientele here can be described as old and rich.

Moxy Hotel

The Moxy Hotel is another Downtown San Diego hotel in the Gaslamp. It’s just a short walk to bars, restaurants, is less than a mile from the San Diego Convention Center and just around 2 miles from the famous San Diego Zoo. This unique hotel has a fun, youthful and playful vibe with sleek, industrial decor. There are USB outlets in all rooms, a nice perk for all of us who are always in need of a cell phone charge. The showers are walk-in, which is great. Go for a room higher up for better views of San Diego. This hotels draws a younger crowd and features a 24/7 bar and board games. There’s also a gym and a business center at this hotel. Breakfast is not included, but is a continental breakfast is an option.

The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe

The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe is unique hotel located in the ultra-wealthy community of Rancho Santa Fe. The 21-acre property features Spanish-California architecture in San Diego’s north county. This unique and historic San Diego resort and spa is a pretty relaxed environment. It’s rarely ever crowded, including the restaurant and bar on the property. We wouldn’t classify this as exciting, but if peace and relaxation in the hills is what you seek, this might be your spot. We are not fans of the bar at the hotel, so walk over to Nick and G’s just a 5 minute walk away for more exciting food and environment.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines

The Lodge at Torrey Pines describes their hotel as refined and luxurious. We would agree. The lodge is located just off the 18th green of the famous Torrey Pines golf course and includes a variety of amenities, including a spa, a fitness center, and several dining options. The hotel is not walking distance to anything, so you will need a car to get off the property. It is located near the cliffs of Torrey Pines, one of our favorite areas to hike in San Diego with breathtaking views of the ocean. It is the most expensive hotel on this list at over $600 a night.

The 1906 Lodge Coronado

The 1906 Lodge is a historic and charming hotel located on the beautiful island of Coronado. The unique hotel’s decor is vintage and cozy, with a variety of amenities including a pool and a variety of dining options. Coronado is unique itself, and definitely worth visiting or staying in if you are visiting San Diego. 1906 is located right near Coronado’s main street shops, restaurants, and galleries. Just a few blocks over is the landmark Hotel Del, next on our list.

Known as “The Del” to San Diego locals, Hotel Del Coronado is quite possibly the most iconic hotel in all of San Diego. Hotel Del has been in operation since 1888! Even though it’s been around for over 100 years, it is still luxurious and offers an incredible amount of amenities and is perfectly located on the beach. It attracts people young and old, is great for couples, families or people traveling on their own. This unique San Diego hotel is one to consider!

The Cosmopolitan Hotel is historic hotel located in Old Town San Diego. This small boutique hotel has just 10 rooms total! You’ll feel like you went back in time while staying at The Cosmopolitan. Constructed in 1827, the original adobe home is one of the oldest buildings in all of San Diego County. This bed and breakfast offers a unique experience with our Victorian-style bedrooms and baths, using antique furniture from the 1800s. If you are looking for unique, it doesn’t get more unique than this one. Is it haunted? You’ll have to find out yourself.
